Caring for patients in the ICU is extremely complex; managing your equipment shouldn’t be.

For that reason, the NxStage System One is designed to provide simplicity and versatility that allows the delivery of renal replacement therapy throughout the continuum of patient care.

Intensive Care Unit: chart

Patients in the ICU who are hemodynamically unstable may require Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT). As they begin to stabilize and come off pressors, they may be transitioned to Prolonged Intermittent Renal Replacement Therapy (“PIRRT”) before placing them on conventional intermittent hemodialysis, which they may not be ready to tolerate.

Risks and Responsibilities

Renal replacement therapy, as with any medical therapy is not without risks. The decision of which therapy and medical device to use should be made by the physician, based on previous experience and on the individual facts and circumstances of the patient.

There is no literature demonstrating that one therapy is clinically better than the other.

The use of anticoagulation is at the discretion of the prescribing physician.
